PORT DOVER 2006
Well it was that time of year again ...A Friday the 13th ...This year the only Fri13th was Oct ...Now we Ontario bikers run for Port Dover on the North side of Lake Erie on the 13ths and this was the 25th year it was happenin'...Our Canadian ThanksGiving was the wknd before and the weather was great...But the weatherman kept flipfloppin' on the Friday's forcast...My Bro Stan and I decided as long as it wasn't snowing in Dover we were going... So 5am Friday the forcast was for our area sunny with the temps climbing to around 8c for the day...PD it was to be overcast with temps around 8c and 40% chance of rain ..So that was that we were going...We dressed for the weather and hit the road around 8:30 am ...The ride west on the QEW was great no traffic the sun was shinning and the world was right...WRONG ...We knew that Fort Erie and Buffalo had had a major snow storm over night From 30cm all the way up to 65cm ( 1 ft to 2 ft ) Power was out to 1000's of homes and both cities had called a state of emergency...But they were south east of where we were going and on Lake Ontario.... We swung onto the Hwy 6 bypass and the sky darkend and the first hint of snow showed...As we rolled along 6south we saw more signs of the weather from the night before ...By Jarvis which is about 10km from PD the snow was still on the roofs of houses and cars...As we road across the lift bridge into PD the wind off of Lake Erie was the first thing noticed ...It was strong with gust that had to be 50 or 60 km ....As we rode up and down the main drag we watch as the vendors tried to keep their booths from blowing away...It was a little after 10am ....There was still a lot of parking up on the street but with the way the wind was whippin' everything we headed down for the old Timmies ( now Rosies ) ...Parked and inside for a coffee to warm us , we headed out to walk the streets ...Now to the pics ...Run your cursor over them for text....
